Art Made Audible Concert

As the result of the collaboration of a visual artist with composers and performers, this concert will feature seven new works for saxophones, each written to pair with a piece of artwork by MCC faculty member Jan Arabas. The composers include MCC faculty member David Janssen and Anne Guzzo, Forrest Pierce, Timothy Miller, Jack Wilds, Shawna Wolf and Allison McIntosh. The saxophonists are Sean Mix, Bennett Parsons, Morgan Smallwood and Andy Wilds. Most of the art featured is inspired by the natural beauty of Grand Teton National Park, creating an exciting fusion of art, music, and nature.

Process
My process is fluid, moving back and forth between media. For example, on a drawing trip to Utah, I camped along the Colorado River and made some small format pastel drawings and took photographs. Back in the print studio, these became large, 4 panel monotypes (90 in wide x 40 in high.) I drew on top of the prints with graphite and pastel and then photographed them I pulled the digital images into Photoshop and painted on them. The resulting digital output is a source for some large woodcuts I am currently carving.
